Architect Cafe #12 - Dev.Backstage

During a week-long event dedicated to mastership and knowledge sharing, bringing together IT professionals for inspiring talks, workshops, and relevant discussions. The highlight of the evening will be a presentation by Dylan Beattie on the Rockstar programming language, followed by Oscar van der Leij leading the Architect Cafe XXL session with interactive breakout sessions covering diverse architectural challenges.
Event Overview
DEV.Backstage
The week is all about mastership and knowledge sharing featuring a full week of inspiring talks, workshops, and relevant discussions. This comprehensive approach will allow participants to explore multiple facets of software architecture and development practices through varied session formats.
Keynote: Dylan Beattie - The Rockstar Programming Language
Dylan Beattie, creator of the Rockstar programming language, will deliver an entertaining and thought-provoking presentation about this unique esoteric programming language. Rockstar is designed to create programs that look like lyrics from 1980s power ballads, challenging conventional assumptions about what code should look like while exploring the boundaries between programming and creative expression. Dylan will demonstrate how Rockstar works, share the story behind its creation, and discuss what building an unconventional language teaches us about language design and developer culture.
Architect Cafe XXL
Oscar van der Leij will facilitate the Architect Cafe XXL session with a focus on stakeholder management and its critical connection to business value creation. The session will explore practical approaches to engaging with different stakeholder groups and translating technical decisions into clear business value propositions.
Discussion Topics
The breakout sessions will cover an extensive range of architectural challenges across multiple dimensions:
Culture & Frameworks will examine company culture's role in model frameworks and adapting architecture to organizational context, recognizing that successful architecture must align with organizational values and working methods.
Flexibility & Change will address adapting architecture to customer requirement changes, greenfield architecture strategies, and TOGAF practices with guidance on when to apply them effectively.
Security will explore security shift-left responsibility and building security into the development process from the earliest stages, making security everyone's responsibility rather than an afterthought.
System Design will cover single versus multitenant system considerations, examining trade-offs and decision criteria for different deployment models based on business needs and technical constraints.
Development Practices will discuss reuse versus custom build decisions, balancing modular code reusability with flexibility, and addressing programming language strategy versus individual developer choice in technology standards.
Documentation & Onboarding will focus on documentation optimization, efficient onboarding processes, and knowledge transfer strategies to maintain team productivity and reduce ramp-up time for new members.
